Compare + Adjust

Successful territory planning depends on flexibility

Strategic territory planning requires the ability to quickly make adjustments to plans, see the impacts of those adjustments, then make the right choice for your business. Plan delivery, sales, and merchandiser routes together — so a change in one doesn’t quietly break the others.

Share plans across internal teams

Share territory plans with internal teams via OMS export for streamlined internal alignment, and share more accurate delivery-window quotes with current and potential customers. Share a single linked plan across your delivery, sales, and merch teams — so everyone is scheduling against the same service day commitments, not working around each other.

Powered by the Dynamic Optimization Engine (DOE)

Learn how Wise Systems applications rely on the DOE to make decisions, automate tasks, and offer suggestions that help your organization optimize routes during planning and execution. Respond to delays and keep everyone up-to-date — ultimately improving experiences for employees and customers.

The same engine that optimizes a single delivery route coordinates across delivery, sales, and merchandiser plans simultaneously — so your network runs as one.

What is territory planning?

Proactive territory management, a key function of our Strategic Planner, is a process for distributors and wholesalers who want to ensure resources are allocated to customers in specific geographical areas.

With Strategic Planner from Wise Systems, route planners and managers can quickly optimize coverage and geographical segmentation via a clean and simple user interface.

For distributors running delivery, sales, and merch crews against the same accounts, territory planning now extends across all three — with one anchor plan your whole operation can execute against.

When territory problems run deeper than a single depot, the tool’s Network Optimization function lets you redistribute customers across your entire warehouse network — eliminating overlap, rebalancing load, and fixing structural inefficiencies that territory adjustments alone can’t solve.

Frequently asked questions

Strategic Planner is used to design and optimize the structure of a delivery network — territories, depots, fleet size, and service frequencies. It is the planning layer fleets use before daily routing, helping them decide how many routes to run, which customers belong in which territory, and how to consolidate operations after growth or an acquisition.
Strategic Planner and Route Planner are two separate products that solve different problems. Strategic Planner sets the long-term network structure — territories, cycles, and fleet sizing across one or more depots. Route Planner takes that plan and builds the executable daily routes, assigning stops to drivers while respecting capacity and time windows. You plan the network in Strategic Planner; you run the day in Route Planner.
Yes. Strategic Planner models multiple depots and regions in a single view, balancing territories by customer count, stop volume, or capacity. It supports multi-week service cycles and lets teams run optimization across an entire network or a selected set of territories, making it suited to multi-site operations where routing complexity is highest. We refer to this at Network Optimization.
Yes. Strategic Planner builds multiple plan variants from your real data so you can compare them side by side against a baseline. Teams use it to test changes such as moving a depot, adding new customers, or removing a route, and to see the effect on miles, travel time, and service time before rolling anything into daily operations.
A typical plan runs in a couple of minutes. You load your customer, depot, and volume data, set your constraints and what you want to optimize for, and the planner returns a balanced network plan you can refine or hand off to Route Planner.
Strategic Planner is a strong fit for fleets with recurring, scheduled service and network complexity — distributors, linen and uniform services, food and beverage operations, and field service organizations. It is especially valuable for companies undergoing growth or post-merger consolidation, where territories and depots need ongoing re-optimization rather than static, manually-maintained routes.
Yes. Strategic Planner has a two-way integration with Encompass. From the Encompass route versions table, you push an inactive route version straight into a Strategic Planner session — selecting the fleets and customers you want to model and applying any filters before sending. You run as many scenarios and reroutes as you need inside Strategic Planner without touching live operations, then import the finished plan back into Encompass to make it active. Because the integration handles the data structure both directions, you skip the manual export-and-reformat work that eats hours with stitched-together routing and territory tools.
